Italian philosopher and historian, born near Turin on the 11th of November 1818. After holding a professorship of philosophy at Cuneo and in Turin, he traveled in Germany and in the United States, making an inspection of the educational systems of those countries. Among his works are Dante as Philosopher, Patriot, and Poet; Life of Cavour; and History of Modern Italian Philosophy. In 1853 he became professor of Italian literature in the University of the City of New York. He died on the 5th of October 1894.
