Jesuit priest and Italian historian, born in Palermo, Sicily, on the 15th of August 1823. Having been educated in the Jesuit colleges at Palermo and in Rome, he entered the orders, and became successively professor of universal history in Massimo College at Palermo, of ecclesiastical history in the Roman College, of theology in the University of Bruno, and of theology and history at the University at Poitiers. He published Historical Studies upon the Church of the Empire; Course in the General History and Geography of the Middle Age; History of the Revolution of 1860 in Sicily; and The Pope and the Church Considered in their Mutual Relations.
