American Revolutionary statesman and soldier, born in Exeter, NH, in 1726. He was in command of a company during the French war of 1755, and for his part in the capture of Baron Dieskau was appointed a general of militia. He served in the Continental army before Boston in 1775; in 1774–75 and 1777–78 was a member of Congress; and in 1783 president of the New Hampshire constitutional convention. He died in Exeter, NH, on the 26th of May 1790.
