[Liholiho].  Son of the preceding; born in Hawaii in 1797. He was intemperate, and given to pleasure. After succeeding to the throne in 1819 he abolished idolatry, and prepared the way for the missionaries, who came from Boston in 1820 and soon taught the Hawaiian people to read and write, to cipher and sew. The king and queen visited London in 1824, where both died of the measles in the following year.
