American Presbyterian clergyman, born at Hatfield, MA, on the 22nd of April 1688; died on the 7th of October 1747. In 1709 he became pastor of the church at Elizabethtown, NJ, where he remained until his death. He was among the founders of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), and in 1746 was chosen its first president. Among his publications are Reasonableness of Christianity and The True Scripture Doctrine Concerning Some Important Points of Christian Faith. Dickinson Hall at Princeton College commemorates his name.
