Littérateur, born at Saint Dizier, France, on the 24th of December 1825, and has been professor of literature at the University of Dijon since 1879. He was made a member of the Legion of Honor, August 15, 1864. Among his extensive critical writings are Critical Study of the Supposed Correspondence between Seneca and St. Paul; The Public Spirit of the Eighteenth Century; History of French Language and Literature of the Middle Ages. He has published numerous annotated editions of classical French and Latin authors.
