a. An acid obtained from another acid by substituting sulphur for oxygen; as sulphocyanic acid, CNHS, from cyanic acid, CNHO: now called THIO-ACID. b. An acid that contains the group SO2 . OH united to carbon. (See SULPHONIC.)
