TO RUN FOR THE BRIDE-DOOR, verb. phr. (provincial).—To start for a favour given by a bride to be run for by the youth of the neighbourhood, who wait at the church-door until the marriage is over, and then run to the bride’s door. The prize, a riband, is worn for the day in the hat of the winner. (HALLIWELL).
