German poet, born in Königswinter, Prussia, on the 5th of March 1816. He was a medical student at Berlin and Bonn. His poem The May Queen (1852) is perhaps the best known of his efforts. Others of his works are Stories of the Rhine (1874); Prince Minnewein (1854); John of Werth (1858); and a number of dramas. He died on the 29th of June 1873.
