Signer of the Declaration of Independence, born in Boston on the 17th of June 1742. Graduated at Harvard; studied law, and in 1767 settled in Wilmington, NC; elected to the Continental Congress of 1774; re-elected in 1775, and at the expiration of his term, serving until 1777. He died at Hillsboro, NC, October 1790.
