[Theodor Wilhelm]. Distinguished German orientalist, born on the 4th of July 1828. In 1861 he was appointed to the chair of oriental languages in the University of Greifswald, his birthplace. He has published several important works on the history and literature of the Orient, chief among which are his Poetry and Poetic Art of the Arabs and a remarkable Catalogue of the Arabic manuscripts in the royal library at Berlin.
