Danish writer, born in Copenhagen on the 8th of February 1835. In early life he became noted as a zoologist; but the use of the microscope induced temporary blindness, and he turned his attention to poetry, and afterwards to writing novels. His productions were very popular. Fra Piazza del Popolo; Bruden fra Rorvig; Fra gamle Dage; Fra Sollyse Strande; and Rome under Pius IX, are among his best writings.
