American poet and soldier; born in Danville, KY, on the 11th of February 1820; was admitted to the bar in 1845, and took part in the Mexican War. He was for a time after the close of the war editor of papers in Louisville and Frankfort, KY, and Mobile, AL. In the Civil War he served in the Confederate army. He is known, however, for his poems, especially for the Bivouac of the Dead and The Old Pioneer. He died in Bullock County, near Guerryton, AL, on the 6th of June 1867.
