[Augustus Glossop].  English playwright and theatrical manager, born in England in 1852. He became the manager of several of the London theaters, and raised the performances to a high standard of excellence. Among the most successful of his plays, usually written in collaboration with other dramatic writers, were The World; Human Nature; A Run of Luck; A Million of Money; The Prodigal Daughter; A Life of Pleasure; and The Sporting Duchess. He was a member of the London county council, sheriff of the city of London, and a deputy lieutenant of the city of London. The Queen knighted him in 1891, on the occasion of the German Emperor’s visit to London. He died in London on the 22nd of June 1896.
