[or Babyllus, Babila].  Martyred bishop of Antioch, who suffered death A.D. 250; remembered in history for the discipline of the Emperor Philip for complicity in the death of Emperor Gordianus, compelling him to do penance publicly. His body, buried first at Antioch, was transferred to Daphne in 351; removed to Antioch by the Emperor Julian in 362.
