Poet and publicist, born on the 13th of January 1843, at Kilfinane, Ireland. He graduated from Queen’s College, Cork, and died by his own hand in Winnipeg, MB, on the 17th of October 1901. He was appointed war correspondent for the London Standard during the Franco-Prussian war, and in 1879 was commissioned by the Canadian government to visit the United States for the purpose of investigating the Indian industrial schools. Various other official positions were held by him prior to his election in 1887 and 1891 to the Dominion Parliament.
