[Marie-Roze Ponsin Mapleson].  French singer, born in Paris, on the 2nd of March 1846. She studied at the Conservatoire, and made her début as Marie, in the opera of the same name, in 1865; sang in various operas in Paris until the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War, when she joined the ambulance department. From 1872 to 1877 she sang successfully in England; visited the United States in 1877, returning to England the next year. She was married, first to Julius Perkins, and, after his death in 1875, to James Henry Mapleson. Her best parts include Marguerite in Faust; Berengario in Il Talismano; Leonora, Mignon and Carmen.
