American poet and satirist, born in Waterbury, CT, on the 19th of June 1750; studied medicine; practiced in Litchfield, 177684, and then moved to Hartford and became member of a coterie called The Hartford Wits. With them he wrote the Anarchiad, a series of satirical essays, which advocated the framing of an efficient Federal constitution. He was also the author of a number of satirical poems and essays, among them The Echo; The Political Greenhouse; New Years Verses; and is said to have written a version of the 137th psalm. He died on the 14th of April 1801 in Hartford, CT.
