[Lafayette Curry].  American detective, born at Stafford, Genesee County, NY, on the 13th of October 1826, and died in Philadelphia on the 2nd of July 1868. He was chief of the United States secret service; organized the pursuit of the assassin of President Lincoln, and was present at Booth’s capture and death. He was made brigadier-general.
