Irish author, born at Clondalkin, Ireland, in 1861; first known as a writer of verses and later as a novelist. Among her works are Louise de la Vallière and Other Poems (1885); Shamrocks (1887); The Way of a Maid (1895); An Isle in the Water (1896); The Wind in the Trees (poems, 1898); The Handsome Brandons (1898); and other tales, in which the writer displays much humor and insight.
