[Joseph Henry].  American clergyman and writer, born on the 5th of October 1838, in North Whitehall, PA. Graduated in 1856 from Franklin and Marshall College and from Mercersburg Theological Seminary in 1859, he entered the ministry of the Dutch Reformed Church. After continuous pastoral work until 1875, he became professor of history and archæology in Franklin and Marshall College. He wrote a number of articles on historical subjects and contributed largely to periodicals. His most popular published works are Historic Manual of the Reformed Church (1885) and Early German Hymnology (1888).
