English traveler, born in Kent. He went to New England in 1638, visited the prominent men of Boston, and returned to England in the following year. In 1663 he made another visit to America, this time remaining eight years, and upon his return published several books on the history, customs and physical feature of the country he had visited. These are New England’s Rarities (1672), which was reprinted in Boston, with notes by Edward Tuckerman, in 1865; An Account of Two Voyages to New England (1674); and A Chronological Table of the Most Remarkable Passages from the First Discovery of the Continent of America to 1673, both of which were reprinted in Boston in 1865.
