Editor and author, born on the 31st of January, 1845, at Salem, NC. After several years’ experience in politics and newspaper-work in his native state, he became connected with the civil service at Washington. In 1887 he was chosen one of the editors of the Century Dictionary, and afterward joined the editorial staff of the Standard Dictionary. For a time he was the literary editor of the New York World. Whispering Pines is the title of a volume of poems written by him.
