American clergyman, born in Boston, MA, on the 31st of May 1754. He began to preach in 1776; was for a time chaplain of a Boston regiment, and from 1779 till his death was pastor of the New North Church of Boston. He was one of the founders of the Massachusetts Historical Society, and contributed largely to its collections. He published a Biographical Dictionary of Eminent Characters in New England. He died in Boston on the 14th of February 1813.
