American clergyman and author, born in Elizabeth, NJ, on the 15th of March 1841; graduated at Princeton College and Seminary; pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Albany, NY (1865–69); of the Collegiate Reformed Dutch Church at New York (1869–77); of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, NY (1877–86); and of the First Presbyterian Church, East Orange, NJ (1886). Wrote The Captain of the Janizaries (1886); A King of Tyre (1891); That Angelic Woman (1891); and compiled a Concentric Chart of History (1885).
