American classical scholar and educator, son of Wilson Flagg; born in Beverly, MA, on the 7th of September 1843. He graduated from Harvard in 1864, and received the degree of Ph.D. from Göttingen, Germany, in 1871. Upon his return to the United States he was tutor at Harvard (1865–69); professor of Greek at Cornell (1871–88); and became associate professor of philology in the University of California (1891). He has published Versicles (1883); Euripides’s Iphigenia among the Taurians (1889); etc.
