German scholar and poet, born at Ingstetten, Württemberg, 1472; died, 1518, at Tübingen, where he had been professor of rhetoric and poesy since 1497. He was a friend of Erasmus, and in 1501 was crowned poet laureate by the Emperor Maximilian, having written numerous poems, most of them in praise of the Emperor. His best known work was a collection of anecdotes and witticisms, entitled Facetiæ, published in 1506.
