Fanatic, born in Eschwege, Hesse, in 1670; died near Hamburg; converted at the court of Eisenach to a religious life by Vockerodt of Gotha, the Pietist, she left her husband and the court and returned to Eschwege. Here she formed a congregation of so-called “New Christians.” These she led to believe that she was the Holy Ghost, and later the woman who was to give birth to the new Christ. The immoral teachings and practices of her followers brought upon them universal condemnation, and they survived but twelve years.
