When seventeen years of age she finished her first work, The Power of Little Things. Her works began to appear regularly from 1869, in which year appeared Vestina’s Martyrdom, followed by Earnest Christianity (1872); Margaret Mervyn’s Cross (1878); Profit and Loss (1879); Heroines of the Mission Field (1880); Mission Life in Greece and Palestine (1881); Florence Godfrey’s Faith; Life’s Daily Ministry; My Governess Life (1882); Central Africa, Japan and Fiji (1883); Elizabeth Fry (1884); George Muller and Andrew Reed (1885); One of the Least and Ray Elliott’s Deliverer (1887); Lady Missionaries in Foreign Lands (1889); Lady Hymn Writers (1891); Oliver Chauncey’s Trust (1892). In 1866 she married Edwin Pitman.
