French publishers whose special line is medicine and physics; the first, Émile, born in Paris on the 7th of November 1831; went into the publishing business with his father in 1857; became a member of the Paris chamber of commerce in 1859; from then until 1862 was one of the directors of the Bank of France; was decorated with the badge of the Legion of Honor in 1876. His brother, Henri, was born in Paris on the 15th of September 1840; entered the firm in 1863; is himself the author of many works of merit. Among the publications of the firm are A New Dictionary of Medicine and Surgery, consisting of 40 volumes, published from 1864 to 1886; a Dictionary of Electricity, and a Library of Useful Knowledge, composed of 35 volumes, published from 1887 to 1891.
