Irish statesman and author, born in Cork on the 16th of November 1795. From 1820 to 1826 he represented Cork in Parliament, and then devoted himself to his great work, The Antiquities of Mexico, comprising Facsimiles of Ancient Mexican Paintings and Hieroglyphics, together with the Monuments of New Spain by M. Dupaix, with their respective Scales of Measurement, and accompanying Descriptions, the whole illustrated with many valuable inedited MSS. The first of nine volumes was published in 1831, and the eighth and ninth after his death, which occurred in Dublin, Ireland, resulting from a fever contracted in a debtors’ prison on the 27th of February 1837.
