Bishop of Exeter, in the Church of England and poet; born in Islington, England, on the 25th of January 1825; the son of Edward Bickersteth (1786–1850); graduated at Trinity College, Cambridge; entered the ministry in 1848; made bishop in 1885. Has written Rock of Ages (1859); Yesterday, To-day, and Forever (1867); The Hymnal Companion to the Book of Common Prayer (1870); Thoughts for To-day; From Year to Year (1883); and many other poems and books of religious consolation and of sermons.
