British writer, born in London, in 1843, of Scottish descent. She was married, in 1870, to John Mayo, who died in 1877. Some of Mrs. Mayo’s works are written under her own name and others under the pseudonym of “Edward Garrett.” Among them are The Occupations of a Retired Life (1868); The Crust and the Cake and Mystery of Allan Graley (1885); Ways and Means (1889). In addition, she contributed numerous articles, in both prose and verse, to various magazines.
