Roumanian patriot and poet, born in Bucharest on the 14th of June 1816. After a short term of service in the army, he devoted himself to writing poetry, translation, and political pamphlets. He joined the revolutionary forces in the uprising of 1848 and was forced to leave the country. The next few years he spent in Paris; at length was permitted to return to Roumania, where he engaged in journalistic work, founding a liberal journal and became prominent in political affairs. He was minister of the interior from 1878 to 1880. He died on the 20th of April 1885.
