American Methodist Episcopal clergyman and author, born in Glenconway, County Donegal, Ireland, on the 16th of May 1792. He entered the ministry, emigrated to the United States in 1814 and settled in Ohio in 1818. Here he edited the Western Christian Advocate and other publications. He was successively professor of languages at Madison College, Uniontown, PA, and president of Iowa Wesleyan University. His many religious works include The Sinfulness of American Slavery (1851); A History of the Great Methodist Secession (1855); and several other works. He died in Mount Pleasant, IA, on the 3rd of January 1869.
