[Auguste Alexandre Philippe Charles].  French art critic, brother of Jean Joseph Louis; born at Castres in 1813, died in 1882. His contributions to various French periodicals on matters connected with art were numerous. He was the editor and principal writer of the very complete and extensive History of the Painters of all the Schools. His Works of Rembrandt has passed through many editions.
