American minister, son of Lyman; born at Litchfield, CT, on the 7th of October 1815. He was educated at the Boston Latin School, the Lawrence Academy at Groton, MA, Bowdoin College and Lane Seminary. He became a minister, and was installed pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church at Fort Wayne, IN, in 1844. The First Congregational Church of Newark, NJ, was his next charge; and from here he went to the First Congregational Church in Georgetown, MA. He spent seven years in Florida, and on his return was made pastor of a church at Wysox, PA. Mr. Beecher is a fine musician, and assisted in compiling the Plymouth Collection of Hymns and Tunes. He has published David and His Throne; Pen-Pictures of the Bible; Autobiography and Correspondence of Lyman Beecher; and a few other works.
