[Johanna Mužáková]. Czech writer, born at Prague, and published her first story in the almanac Máj. Among her better known novels are Láska k Bášnikovi, Roman z Casu Novějšich (Poet Love, Novel of the Present Time) (1860); Vesnicky Roman (The Village Romance) (1869); Fratina (1870); Kriz a Potoka (The Cross near the Brook) (1871). Many of her stories have been translated into other languages, and she is regarded as the leading representative of Czech literature of the present day.
