[Benjamin Orange]. American journalist, born on the 19th of October 1858, in southern Illinois. He received his collegiate education at Kentucky University, Lexington. His first journalistic ventures were at Albion, IL, where he founded the American Sentinel. In 1880 he moved to Boston, and in 1889 founded the Arena, a magazine which has become popular for its sociological discussions. He has published, of his own writings, a number of works bearing upon the social problems of the day. The first of these was published in 1893, Civilization’s Inferno: Studies in the Social Cellar. The last one (1896), and thus far the most pretentious of his writings is The Century of Sir Thomas More.
