Bishop who lived in the fourteenth century. He pursued his studies at Thessalonica and then went to Constantinople, where he changed from the Roman Catholic to the Greek religion. He was made abbot of St. Salvador, but on his return to Italy he rejoined the Roman Catholic Church and was given the bishopric of Gierace in the kingdom of Naples. Petrarch tried without success to learn Greek from him. He was a commissioner from the Byzantine court for the promotion of the union of the Greek and Latin churches to Pope Benedict XII.
