Philanthropist; born at St. Quentin, France, on the 31st of January 1713, died at Philadelphia, PA, on the 3rd of May 1784. He joined the Society of Friends and emigrated to Philadelphia, where he devoted his attention to the abolition of the slave trade, to the education of the colored race, and the alleviation of the condition of prisoners. He published a few works, which are of a religious or historical nature, among them Some Historical Account of Guinea, with an Inquiry into the Slave Trade.
