Swedish scholar, born at Padasjoki, Finland, on the 7th of August 1791, and became professor of history in the University of Åbo. Exiled by the Russian government in 1822, on account of some views he published in a periodical edited by him at Åbo, he proceeded to Stockholm, and became royal librarian there. In literature, he was noted for his collection of Swedish Songs (1834–42), and his translation of the Icelandic Saga of Frithjof. He died at Wiborg, Finland, on the 21st of June 1858.
