Philologist, born in Cassel, Germany, on the 14th of April 1851; studied at Munich and Göttingen; was assistant professor at Göttingen and became a professor at Königsberg. His published writings include Lettische Dialektstudien; Über die Sprache der Preussischen Letten; and Die Nurische Nehrung und ihre Bewohner.
