Bot. [mod.L., f. Gr. τρίτομος thrice-cut, f. τρι- three + -τομος cut; from the capsule splitting into three valves.] A genus of liliaceous plants (also called Kniphofia), natives of South Africa, with spikes of scarlet or yellow flowers; several species in cultivation are popularly called flame-flower or red-hot poker.
