Anat. [f. THALAM(O- + ENCEPHALON.] That part of the brain which develops from the posterior part of the anterior cerebral vesicle, and includes the optic thalami, optic nerves, and parts about the third ventricle. Also called diencephalon, middle brain, etc. Also anglicized Thalamencephal.
