Min. Obs. [ad. Ger. tautolit (Breithaupt, 1826); adapted from [Gr.] ταὐτόμετρος of the same measure, referring to a supposed axial relation, and λίθος (Chester); see TAUTO- and -LITE.] An obsolete synonym of ALLANITE.
1828. Philos. Mag., May, 398. The tautolite seems to be related to the chrysolite, as the ceylanite to the spinelle.
1868. Dana, Min. (ed. 5), 286. Bucklandite is anhydrous allanite in small black crystals . Tautolite is probably the same species.
