1882. J. Smith, Dict. Pop. Names Plants, 393. Stink-horn, or Stinking Polecat, Phallus impudicus and P. fœtidus, fungi of the Lycoperdaceæ alliance . An allied species is Clathrus cancellatus, the Lattice Stink-horn.
