Palæont. [mod.L. Squalodon, f. L. squalus SQUALUS + Gr. ὀδοντ-, ὀδούς tooth.] A genus of fossil cetaceans found in Miocene and early Pliocene formations; a cetacean belonging to this genus.
1872. Darwin, Orig. Spec. (ed. 6). xi. 302. The tertiary Zeuglodon and Squalodon are considered by Professor Huxley to be undoubtedly cetaceans.
c. 1880. Cassells Nat. Hist., II. 247. The Squalodons are known chiefly from the skull.
