Min. [f. Gr. αὐτόμολος going by oneself, subst. ‘a deserter’ (f. αὐτο- by oneself + μολεῖν to come, go) + -ITE; so named by Ekeberg (1806), in allusion to the unexpected appearance of zinc in connection with spinel.] A variety of zinc-spinel or GAHNITE.
