1805. Forsyth, Beauties Scotl., II. 380. Sea-fish are to be found in the harbour . Scad, called here lyth or lyd.
1836. Yarrell, Brit. Fishes, II. 173. This fish [the pollack] is called Lythe in Scotland doubtless from its nimbleness and pliancy which the word signifies. Ibid. In Ireland, the Pollack may be traced as occurring under the names of Pollack, Laith, and Lythe.
